Artist statement

My work contemplates the contradictions and complexities of life by using autobiographical, fictional, ritualistic and symbolic narratives with an ironic undertone. I question and wonder about the nature of existence and the forces that drive me to grow. What makes my insides move, what makes my hips move.
Using themes of identity, change, attention and time, I explore a metaphorical inquiry into the forces that drive and inspire us, whether they be internal, external or a combination of both. Given the sensory, spatial and temporal limitations of the body, attention determines experience. What one chooses to pay attention to, gets them out of stagnation into life, time becomes activated and experienced. I find these moments when life is lived fascinating; by observing rhythm and periodic events in life I aim to outline the states of mind, experiences and events that break the pattern.
My work can be seen as an alternative exploration of life's intricacies, the interconnectedness of all things and what really makes my hips move!
